Billy Joe Shelton, 72, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer on September 19, 2016. Billy Joe was born in Sylacagua, AL and has been a resident of Smiths Station, AL since 1987. He worked for 25 years at West Central Regional Hospital where he received many awards for his outstanding performance and dedication to his work. His most loved role was that of a husband, dad, and Papaw. In October of 1980, he began a journey in a new way of life which has brought him much peace, joy, and involvement in the lives of others whose paths would not normally cross.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Shelton, his parents, a brother and sister.
He leaves behind his children, Jason (Danielle) Leon, Jarrett Leon, and Charlene (Kurt) Weismantel and his grandchildren:  Cheyenne Leon, Dakota Leon, Keric Weismantel and Ryan Weismantel. He leaves behind his sister Bertha Rigsby and many other special friends. He also leaves behind his two fur buddies, Bitsy and Dixie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 11am at Lakewood Baptist Church. 4011 Lakewood Dr, Phenix City, AL.
