William "Ray" Timmons Obituary

William Raymond Timmons, Jr

July 24, 1939 - May 9, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ray at the age of 86. He passed peacefully in Hospice care in Columbus, GA surrounded by the love of friends and family.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and the love of his life, Myrna Jean Gutierrez. He is survived by his son, Tony Timmons (Gary), his daughter, Sherri Robinson (Scott), his stepdaughters, Sabrina Armbrust (Sven), and Stacy Stokes as well as his two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Additionally, Ray was blessed to have Myrna’s family members for love and support. Specifically, Brenda and Jerry Julius were his angels on Earth.

Ray graduated high school from Jordan Vocational High School in Columbus, GA and college at Auburn University. He majored in education and coached football at Opelika High School before starting his own manufactured home business in Columbus, GA on Victory Drive. Later he managed sales for Bill Heard Chevrolet. Throughout Ray’s years in the car business, he was lucky to have a great friend and business partner, Butch Bowyer.

Ray had many hobbies including golf, dance, and weightlifting. Notably, in 1968, he won Mr. Georgia in a body building contest. He and his beloved fiance, Myrna, were part of a shag and bop dance group for many years and attended dances regularly. They traveled together making many acquaintances and lifelong friends along the way. Ray and Myrna never met a person they couldn’t talk to for hours.

Ray will forever be known for his southern charm, sharp attire, attention to detail and zeal for life. He will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial to celebrate his life in September 2026. Details to be announced later.
