Wayne Thacker Obituary

Wayne Donald Thacker, lovingly known as Paw Paw, passed away on May 6, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia, at the age of 68. He was born on September 16, 1957, in Columbus, Georgia, to Noah Donald Thacker and Dorothy Pagent. Wayne lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and the many people who were blessed to know him.

Wayne married Kathryn “Diane” Thacker, and for 51 years, they built a life centered on love, commitment, and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took great pride in the legacy he helped create. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Diane” Thacker; his children, Shannon Denise Payne (Tony), Melisa Ann Monteiro (Jerry), and Kevin Wayne Thacker (Shawnda); his three sisters, Pat Smith, Shelia Eggie (Larry), and Dona Suggs; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His family was the heart of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Chris Thacker; his parents, Noah Donald Thacker and Dorothy Pagent; and his sister, Anita White.

Wayne was a hardworking man who earned the respect of those around him through his dedication and steady presence. He retired as a Master Electrician from Jordan Electric, where he built a career defined by skill, reliability, and pride in a job well done.

Above all else, Wayne was known for the love he had for his family. He was the kind of man who always placed others before himself and who made sure his loved ones knew they were important to him. His family knew him as a man who could always be counted on, whether for guidance, encouragement, or simply his steady and reassuring presence. He was affectionately called Paw Paw by everyone who knew him, a name that spoke to the warmth, kindness, and affection he shared so freely.

Wayne was also a devoted Christian and served as a deacon at Glenn Anthony Baptist Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and he lived it through his actions, his words, and the example he set for others.

In his free time, Wayne enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and traveling. These interests brought him joy and gave him opportunities to make lasting memories with those he loved. Whether he was spending time outdoors or setting out on a new journey, he embraced life with appreciation and a sense of adventure. The experiences he shared with his family and friends will be treasured for years to come.

Wayne Donald Thacker will be remembered as a hard worker, a faithful servant, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud Paw Paw. His life was a testament to loyalty, faith, and the importance of family. The lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
