Truett “Mack” McGee, 76, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Magnolia Manor in Columbus, Georgia. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM ET at Evergreen Memorial Park with Rev. Michael Turner officiating along with military honors.
Mr. McGee was born June 28, 1946 to Leon Benjamin McGee and Louie Hildreth McGee in Columbus, Georgia. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Masonic Orders- Shriners of Columbus, Georgia. Mr. McGee served as a member of the United States Marine Corps. In 1977, he graduated from Chattahoochee Valley Community College with an Associates of Science-Criminal Justice/Police Science. Mr. McGee was employed with the Phenix City Police Department from 1968-1981, Selma Police Department from 1981-1990, as well as Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority as Chief of Security from 1983-1990. During his time on the police force, he was awarded two HEROISM Awards in 1976 and 1986. While being semi-retired, he worked in public services, public relations, private sales, security, and automobile sales consulting. In his spare time, Mr. McGee enjoyed deep sea fishing, skeet shooting, traveling, waterskiing, and hunting. He also enjoyed dancing, fundraisers, and playing bingo.
He is preceded in death by his father, Leon Benjamin McGee; mother, Louie Hildreth McGee; sister, Ouida Downs; brother, Arthur McGee.
Surviving are one sister, Jeanette Young; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
