Tracy Emerson Sports Jr., a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, at the age of 74 in Columbus, Georgia. Born on October 31, 1949, Tracy's life was characterized by his dedication to his family, his work, and his passion for the outdoors.
He is survived by his loving spouse of nearly 50 years, Rhonda Sports of Phenix City, Alabama. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and mutual support. Tracy's legacy continues through his two sons, Mike Sports (Christa) of Saint Joseph, MO and Keith Sports, of Phenix City, AL, and his adored grandchild, Joseph Rice of Gulf Shores, AL. Tracy was a brother to William Sports (Jackie) of North Carolina, George Sports (Julie) of Salem, AL, Bobby Sports (Michelle) of Seale, AL, Ronnie Sports of Phenix City, AL, and James Sports (Judy) of Valley, AL. He was a cherished uncle to Christy Moore, Kim Winsor, and held a special place in the hearts of his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tracy was preceded in death by his parents, Tracy Emerson Sports Sr. and Alice (Bush) Butler, and his sister, Patricia Ingram.
Tracy's professional life was marked by his role as a supervisor at Farley Nuclear Plant in Columbia, Alabama. In 1992, he brought his expertise to Phenix City, where he began working at Sports Metal alongside his brother. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he was respected by colleagues and friends alike for his dedication and skill.
An avid outdoorsman, Tracy found great joy in deer hunting and fishing. These activities were not just hobbies but a way of connecting with nature and creating lasting memories with his family and friends. Tracy's love for the outdoors was matched only by his desire to help others. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it was fixing a neighbor's fence or volunteering his time for community projects.
Those who knew Tracy would describe him as generous, handy, and selfless. He never hesitated to share his time and talents with those in need. His ability to solve problems and his willingness to assist others were traits that endeared him to many.
Tracy's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit of generosity and selflessness will continue to inspire. His life was a living example of how to care for others and make the most of every moment.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Bush Road Emanuel Holiness Church, a Church Tracy helped build.
