Theresa Parker Obituary

Theresa A. Parker, of Parkton, North Carolina, a beacon of kindness and generosity in her community, passed away on October 5th, 2024, in her beloved hometown of Columbus, Georgia. Born on October 19th, 1959, to Billy Hill Smith and Joyce (Yarbrough) Whitaker, Theresa's spirited nature and warmth were evident from a young age.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Theresa's family was the cornerstone of her life. She shared 34 years of marriage with her loving spouse, Patrick Parker. Together, they raised two daughters, Christy Barnes (married to Brandon) and Amiee Pope (married to Travis), who remember her as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. Theresa's joy multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Katelyn Jones (Brandon), Alyssa Harden, Austin Pope, Lana Barnes, and Audrey Barnes, and she cherished every moment with her great-grandchildren, Ryder and Mason Jones. Her niece, Candi Smith, along with numerous extended family members in New York and Maryland, and her close-knit relationship with Dean Melton, whom she considered like a brother, will all carry forward her legacy of love.

Theresa's life was one of service and care, not only for her family but for all living creatures. Her home was a haven for many animals she took in, reflecting her deep compassion for the voiceless. Her Christian faith was a constant source of strength and guidance, and she lived her beliefs through her actions every day. Theresa's desire to help others extended into the community, where she was known for supporting small businesses and working with local entrepreneurs. Her efforts made a significant impact, and her presence in the community will be greatly missed.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Theresa found peace and contentment on her back porch, where she could be found tending to her plants, showcasing her green thumb, or simply enjoying the serene environment around her. Her passion for playing bingo, brought great happiness to her life. Theresa's favorite color, blue, was as vibrant and calming as her presence in any room.

Theresa is preceded in death by her loving parents and her siblings, Robert Smith and Sherry Melton. Her memory will be honored in a funeral service on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at 2:00 PM ET at Parkhill Cemetery, with Pastor Tyler Kirkpatrick officiating.

A memorial service in remembrance of Theresa will be held in Parkton, North Carolina on her birthday October 19th, 2024.

To have known Theresa was to know a person who embodied kindness, generosity, and a spirited zest for life. She will be remembered for her radiant smile and her willingness to lend a helping hand. Theresa A. Parker leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
