Stephen Ford Obituary

Stephen Wayne Ford, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, left this world on
October 13, 2024, at the age of 59. Born on February 24, 1965, in Sylacauga, Alabama, he was a man of great humor, intelligence, and friendliness, who lived a life marked by deep love for his family and an unwavering patriotic spirit.

Stephen spent his formative years in Alabama, where he was born to the late Bobby Wayne Ford and Ruby Pearl Benefield Ford. He was a brother to Kim Gann (Sammy), Frank Ford (Margaret), Rachel Cleveland (Ben), Arnold Shaw (Kelly), and Lou Jean Childree. His life was enriched by the laughter and love of his children, Emily Thrift (Nathan) and Stephanie Ford (Grizzly Anderson), and was further blessed with the joy brought by his grandchildren, Casey Adam Thrift, Bear Stamm, Virgil Anderson, Lia Anderson, and Dixie-Anne Anderson. Stephen was predeceased by his son, Casey Ford, who held a special place in his heart.

A dedicated employee, with the Pezold Management Company, where he was known for his steadfast work ethic and his skill in building maintenance. His colleagues respected him for his dependability and his warm, engaging personality that made him a pleasure to work with daily.

Stephen’s passions were as broad as they were deep. He was an ardent angler, often found at his favorite fishing spots where he would revel in the peace and thrill of the catch. His love for family was paramount, especially for his grandchildren, with whom he shared his hobbies and life lessons. Stephen's presence at 13th Street Barbecue was a familiar sight; he was a man who loved good food and good company in equal measure. Stephen was a faithful member of The Church of God Phenix City.

His affinity for animals shone through in his care for dogs and chickens, and he held a special admiration for the majesty of eagles. As a devoted fan of Auburn football, Stephen bled orange and blue, cheering on his team with the same fervor he lived his life. History was not just a subject for Stephen, but a passion, and he would immerse himself in the stories of the past, often sharing his knowledge with others.

To many, Stephen was known simply as "Dad" – a testament to the paternal warmth and guidance he extended beyond his own family. His character was a tapestry of humor and wit, always ready with a joke or a smile, and he was as friendly as he was sharp-minded, making friends wherever he went.

Stephen’s patriotism was more than a sentiment; it was a part of his identity. He had a profound respect for the values and history of his country, and he instilled this love and respect in his family and friends. His legacy is one of laughter, learning, and an unwavering commitment to the people and things he cherished most.
