Stephen Dean Obituary

Stephen Doyle Dean, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 2, 2024, in his hometown of Columbus, GA, at the age of 72. Born on May 7, 1952, to the late Jackson Doyle Dean and Sara Plymal Dean, Stephen's life was one of dedication, joy, and love, which he shared generously with all who knew him.

Stephen's journey through life was marked by his commitment to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri Dean, with whom he shared a passion for dancing and countless cherished moments. His legacy continues through his sons, Alex Dean (Sara), Simon Dean, and Timothy Dean, as well as his stepsons, Russell Garvey, Jr. (Shana) and Kyle Garvey (Lauren). Stephen took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Michael, Jake, Owen, Brayden, Emily, Olivia Rose, and one grandchild on the way, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy.

He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Dean, and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Benjamin Manis. Stephen's memory will be cherished by the many friends he made at the VFW on Victory Drive in Columbus, GA, where he was a beloved member of the community.

Stephen's professional life was characterized by his skilled craftsmanship as a tool and dye maker. His work was not just a job but a testament to his attention to detail and his ability to create with his hands. This talent extended into his personal life, where he found joy in building things and engaging in carpentry, leaving behind many tangible memories of his creativity and handiwork.

An avid lover of games, Stephen was renowned for his prowess at UNO, earning him the affectionate title of "UNO shark" among his family and friends. Game nights, held twice a week, were a special time for laughter and togetherness, and they will be remembered fondly by all who were lucky enough to participate.

Stephen's interests were diverse and always centered around the simple pleasures of life. He relished the time spent camping, exploring the great outdoors, and watching his favorite television shows. These moments of leisure were made all the more special when shared with his beloved grandchildren, whom he adored with all his heart.
