Sophie "Annette" Amick Obituary

Sophie Annette Amick, known fondly by her friends and family as Annette, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Seale, Alabama. Born on March 17, 1943, in Crawford, Alabama, Annette's life was marked by her scrupulous nature, her unfailing kindness, and her selfless nature. These traits were the golden threads woven through the tapestry of her 81 years on this earth.

Annette's early years were the foundation of a life characterized by strong family bonds and a dedication to community. It was here that she developed the exceptional skills as a seamstress that would bring joy to many throughout her life. Annette's love for her family knew no bounds, and she devoted her life to nurturing her children and grandchildren with the same love and care that she applied to her craft.

Her professional life was a reflection of her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to service. Annette worked in the food industry for many years before realizing her dream of opening her own business, Kanzler Grocery. The store became more than a place of commerce; it was a hub where friends and neighbors would gather, drawn by Annette's warmth and the welcoming atmosphere she created.

Annette's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was an active member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Her involvement in the church was a testament to her belief in the importance of fellowship and her desire to serve others in any way she could.

She is survived by a loving family that includes her four children, Betty Whitson (Jackie), Judy Davis, Sharon Rothacker (Rodney), and Byron Kanzler (Renee); seven grandchildren, Landon Davis, Brian Davis, Kristina Emerson, Jackie Whitson Jr., Nikki Brown (Jeremy), Shawna Thorpe, and Samantha Rothacker; and eight great-grandchildren, Zoey Moore, Alexandria Coleman, Kayden and Skylar Farson, Kash and Haze Emerson, Warren and Raelynn Whitson. She also leaves behind two sisters, Avis Meckes (Carl) and Dot Weathers (James), who will miss her deeply. Annette was a beacon of love and stability to her family, and her legacy will live on through the lives of those she touched.

Annette's journey through life was not without loss. She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Debra Barrett; a cherished grandchild, Ryan Kanzler; and three siblings, David Lockhart, Bill Lockhart, and Sara Copeland. Her memory will be treasured, and her absence felt profoundly by all who knew and loved her.

As we bid farewell to Annette, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of love, service, and dedication. She was the heart of her family, a friend to many, and a pillar in her community. Her kindness healed many hearts, and her selflessness was a lesson in how to live a life for others.

Annette's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who shared in her life's journey. Her spirit, her laughter, and her love will forever be etched in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
