Shellan "June" Martin, a vibrant soul known for her passion and zest for life, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on June 13, 1953, in Opelika, Alabama, June was a beacon of joy and strength to all who knew her. Her outgoing and outspoken nature, coupled with her unwavering happiness, made her a memorable presence in any gathering.
June's life was one of adventure and determination. For 29 years, she navigated the highways of the United States as a dedicated truck driver, a career that allowed her to explore the country she loved so deeply. Her faith as a Pentecostal guided her through life's challenges and triumphs, providing a steadfast foundation for her benevolent spirit.
Her interests were as colorful and diverse as her personality. June relished shopping sprees, savoring meals at her favorite restaurant Cajun corner in Eufaula, and basking in the sun during her cherished beach trips. Her love for the thrill of casino outings with her brother Leonard was matched by her quiet moments spent with her beloved Pomeranian, Zoey. June was also a collector of dream catchers, each one symbolizing her hopes and her free-spirited nature.
Known for her ability to get straight to the point, June's honesty and directness were tempered by her ever-present smile and an infectious laugh that could light up a room. Even in her leisure, she was known to enjoy an occasional margarita, a testament to her belief in celebrating the small pleasures of life.
June's family was the cornerstone of her world. She is survived by her loving brother, Leonard Burnham; her best friend, whom she called her daughter, Adriane Haines; and her children "Junes granddaughters," Ciara Haines and Kiara Haines. Her legacy also lives on through her niece, Angela Brown; great-niece, Elizabeth Herrin; nephews, Chris Burnham and Joseph E. Anthony; great-nephew, Cody Burnham; brother-in-law Joseph T. Anthony and a host of extended family members who will miss her deeply.
Preceding her in death were her beloved spouse, Jimmy Martin; her cherished daughter, Bridgete Coulton; her parents, Stewart Burnham and Margureas (Beebought) Burnham; and her siblings, Jeanette Anthony, Gwen Adams, Bobby Burnham, and sister-in-law Darlene Burnham.
A celebration of June's life will be held on what would have been her 72nd birthday, June 13, 2025, at the family home located at 439 Wright Road, Phenix City, AL 36869, from 5 to 8 p.m. ET. This gathering will honor the legacy of a woman whose passion for life was as vast as the open road she traveled, and whose love for her family and friends was as deep as the ocean she adored.
