Samuel Glen Newsome passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at his home in Smiths Station, Alabama. Born on May 12, 1932, in Geneva County, Alabama, Samuel's life was marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a steadfast commitment to his community. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM ET at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, AL with Pastor Rob Goodman officiating, and Masonic Rites rendered. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home.
Samuel proudly served his nation in the United States Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor. After his military service, he built a successful career as an appliance technician. Samuel's work ethic and integrity in his profession were matched only by his devotion to his family and his faith.
A member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church, Samuel's faith was a guiding light throughout his life. He also found fellowship and purpose as a member of the Prattville Masonic Lodge, Lodge 89, where he formed lasting bonds with his brethren and served his community with distinction.
Samuel was predeceased by his beloved wife, Peggy Ann Newsome, and children, Ricky Newsome, Teresa Kelly, and Sheree Acreman. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, James Edward Newsome, Bobby Gene Newsome, Ruby Clyde Newsome, Edna Ruth Newsome, Elby Ray Newsome, Elizabeth Newsome (Elmore), Mary Faye Newsome (Boutwell), Johnnie Mae Newsome (Brown).
He is survived by his son, Samuel Paul Newsome, who carries on his father's legacy with pride and honor. Samuel's sister, Joann Brazzle, will fondly remember her brother's warmth and wisdom. His life is also celebrated by his 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and who will miss his guidance and gentle spirit. A special niece, whose bond with Samuel was particularly strong, will cherish the memories of her dear uncle.
