Melvin M. Hanson 90, of Foley, Alabama passed away on December 31st 2022. He was born May 15th 1932 at West Fargo, North Dakota to Ludwig and Nora Hanson. He attended West Fargo grade school and Mapleton High School. He was preceded in death by his four brothers and seven sisters. He married Ardell M. Bratand from Leonard, North Dakota. Melvin served in the U.S. Army from December 1948 to January 1971, and retired as Sergeant Major at Fort Benning, GA. His overseas tours were in Europe, Iceland, and the Far East.
SGM Hanson was employed with local banks of Columbus, GA until 1995. He is a Master Mason and perpetual member of Columbian Lodge #7 of Columbus, GA. He served as Worshipful Master and lodge treasurer. SGM Hanson served as the honorary SGM of 2nd BN 54th Infantry, and the 199th Light Infantry Brigade (Redcatcher) of Fort Benning, GA.
Melvin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Ardelle. He is survived by his wife Ingrid E. Hanson of Foley, AL and son Ricky M. Hanson of Fort Mitchell, AL.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Fort Benning Cemetery Columbus GA on Monday January 9, 2023 at 10:00am ET with Rev. Jon Jensen officiating. Please allow additional time to stop at the main post gate to obtain a visitors pass if you are not DoD approved or have a military ID card.
