Robert Brett “Butch” Nisson, Jr. passed away on March 22, 2022 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Robert was born in Columbus, GA on October 22, 1947 to Robert Brett Nisson, Sr. and Kathrine S. Nisson. He graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1966 and attended Columbus College after his service in Vietnam. Robert volunteered for the US Army in 1969 and was quickly recognized as an ideal candidate for the Special Forces Green Berets. After months of specialized training, Robert was assigned to military assistance command, Vietnam - Studies and Observation Group (MACV-SOG). After spending 12 months in Vietnam and earning the bronze star, Robert returned home and attended Columbus College. He soon met Anita, the love of his life, and they began their life together for the next 47 years. Robert passionately loved his family and country. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2009 and spent his retired years enjoying his many cars and making sure those dang mimosa trees didn’t take over the yard.
“The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to Robert. He loved honoring his country, working on his cars, eating at the local Waffle House and Country’s BBQ, but mostly spending time with his family and favorite Granddaughter. He was beyond proud of his children and grandchildren and always made sure they were taken care of. Robert had an uncanny ability to make all those around laugh with him. Cracking inappropriate jokes with his friends and drinking a cold PBR, you would catch a glimpse of his wholesome smile ”
Robert is survived by his wife of 47 years Anita Moore Nisson, 2 daughters, Lauren Nisson Ellerbee and Melissa Nisson Gregory, his only son Robert Brett Nisson III, as well as 3 grandchildren Landyn Nisson(11), Christopher Ellerbee(8) and Jaxson Gregory(3).
