Robert Henry Kilgore, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, in Phenix City, Alabama, at the age of 79. Born on March 27, 1945, in Fort Benning, Georgia, Robert's life was one marked by dedication, love, and a knack for making the most of every moment.
Robert's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife of 58 years, Kathy Jewell Kilgore, a bond that was the cornerstone of his existence. Together, they raised a family that includes two children, Tina Kilgore Bryson (Ricky) and Robert Kilgore (Candace), who, in turn, blessed them with six grandchildren: Richard Bryson (Ashley), Chris Bryson (Lauren), Andrew Kilgore, Nathan Kilgore, Austin Robinson, and Jay Kilgore. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of five great-grandchildren, Aubri, Alayna, Channing, Carter, and Myla. Robert is also survived by his sister, Jean Archer (Jimmy), and leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Kilgore and Erma Crowley Kilgore, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity that he carried throughout his life.
A proud veteran, Robert served his country in the United States Army before embarking on a successful career as a business owner starting Kilgore Wallpaper Co. His enthusiasm for home construction led him to Home Depot, where he retired after years of dedicated service at the Snellville and Columbus locations. Robert's expertise in all facets of home contracting was not just his profession but his passion, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand or share advice with anyone embarking on a home project.
Those who knew Robert will fondly remember his love for the outdoors, especially fishing. He found solace in nature and could often be found watching hunting and fishing programs on TV, as well as enjoying the creative builds on "Treehouse Man." Robert's sociable nature made him a people person through and through, and he had a gift for making friends wherever he went.
The light of Robert's life was his wife, Kathy. In their younger days, they were adventurers at heart, always on the lookout for new restaurants or dancing the night away at discos. Their love was timeless, and even later in life, they could be found swaying together to Shania Twain's "Endless Love," a testament to their enduring affection.
Described by those who knew him as handy, friendly, and wise, Robert had a knack for fixing more than just things; he had a way of mending spirits with his warmth and good humor. His presence was a source of strength and comfort to his family and friends, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
