Robert James Anderson Jr., known lovingly to family and friends as Bobby, passed away on May 18, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia, at the age of 68.
Born on July 29, 1957, in Waycross, Georgia, Bobby lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a steady presence that those around him came to depend on. He carried himself with quiet strength and a practical spirit, qualities that served him well throughout his life and in every role he took on. Whether he was behind the wheel, working with his hands, or lending a helping hand to someone in need, Bobby approached each day with determination and a willingness to get the job done.
Bobby spent his working years as a truck driver, and he also worked in excavation and as a handyman. These occupations reflected the kind of man he was. He was dependable, resourceful, and unafraid of honest labor. He took pride in doing things the right way, and he earned the respect of those who worked alongside him. His life was built on effort, perseverance, and a strong sense of responsibility, and those values remained with him throughout the years.
Beyond his work, Bobby was a man who valued family and friendship deeply. He is survived by his significant other, Tammy Nelson, who shared in his life and stood by him through the years. He also leaves behind his siblings, David Anderson, Phyllis Askew, and Deborah Reynolds, along with several nieces and nephews, who will remember him with love and gratitude. Bobby was also blessed with meaningful friendships that brought companionship and support throughout his life. He is remembered by his friends Wayne Broadwater, Ken Broadwater, Gene Taylor, and Steve Corbett, each of whom held a special place in his life.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert James Sr. and Lois Abbie (Logan) Anderson, as well as by his daughter, Mary Ann Ferro. Their memory remained a part of his life, and he carried those bonds with him always. The love of family, both present and departed, was an important part of who he was and shaped the way he lived.
Those who knew Bobby will remember his straightforward nature, his willingness to help, and the quiet dignity with which he met life’s challenges. He did not seek attention, but he left a lasting impression through his actions, his loyalty, and the steadiness of his character. He was the kind of man whose presence was felt in the everyday moments, and whose absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
