Richard Douglas Welch

Richard Douglas Welch, 70, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 2:00pm ET at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Steve Stewart officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday 6-7pm ET at the funeral home.

Mr. Welch was born August 12, 1952 to the late, Homer and Bertha Welch in Marvell, Arkansas. He served 25 years in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger and retired as a  Sergeant Major. After his service in the Army, he went on to obtain his degree before going on to work and retire after 20 years with Bell South/AT&T. Mr. Welch enjoyed duck hunting, gardening, watching Alabama football, and boxing. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by three siblings, Noreen Holder, Judy Cavette, and Andrew Welch.

Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Becky Welch; daughter, Traci McCutchen (Charles); son, Christopher Welch (Annie); grandchildren, Tamara McCutchen, Chelsea McCutchen, and Eliah McCutchen; sister, Debbie Jackson; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Moore; nephew, Michael Cavette (Kristen); many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
