Richard Sellers Obituary

Richard Edwin Sellers, a steadfast pillar of his community and a beacon of love and humor, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 26, 1946, in Columbus, Georgia, to Norman and Eula Mae (Jones) Sellers, Richard lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his country, and his faith.

Richard's early life laid the foundation for a man who would become known for his unwavering faith in Jesus, his deep love for family, and his dedication to service. His laughter and joy were as infectious as they were genuine, and his comedic spirit brought light to every room he entered.

In a love story that would span half a century, Richard married his beloved spouse, Jackie Sellers, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Tina Nail (Buddy), Susan Hampton (Brandon), and Amy Lindsey (Leah), and later five cherished grandchildren: Kaylea Ingram, Landon Hampton, Luke Hampton, Libby Hampton, and Izzy Lindsey. Richard's family circle extended to include his sisters, Lisa Goodwin and Lynn Sellers; his Bonus Daughters, Lacretia Pope, Cindy Bramel, and Dee Elkins (Johnny); as well as his in-laws, Darlene Ready, Cindy Townsend (Max), and Sheri Isasi (Roy), along with his mother and father-in-law, Jean and Charles Mears.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Martha Jenkins and Jackie Russell.

Richard's professional life was as varied as it was impactful. He honorably served his country in the US Navy, a testament to his patriotism and sense of duty. Throughout his career, he worked with Tom's Foods, Bibb Company, and St. Francis Hospital. His dedication to his community was further exemplified in his role as a Russell County Building Inspector and Maintenance Supervisor, where he was not only a colleague but a mentor to many.

A man of many interests, Richard was an avid fisherman, a passionate Alabama football fan, and an enthusiast of camping with family and friends. His commitment to his faith was evident in his long-standing membership at Fellowship Baptist Church, where he gave his life to the Lord and served his community with a selfless heart.

Richard will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered not only for his willingness to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand but also for his loving nature. His legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and an unwavering faith that inspired everyone around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church in Smiths Station on August 6, with visitation commencing at 11 AM, followed by a service at 12 PM. Richard's life will be honored in a ceremony that reflects the profound impact he had on his community and the immeasurable love he shared with his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Richard's Family request that donations be made to Fellowship Baptist Church or East Alabama Humane Society in Phenix City.
