Phillip Ragan Obituary

Phillip Eugene Ragan, a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Columbus, Georgia, on October 23, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on December 3, 1952, in the same city he would later leave his indelible mark, Phillip's life was one characterized by passion, dedication, and an unyielding spirit of generosity.

Phillip's early years in Columbus were filled with the love and camaraderie of a large family. He was the beloved son of John Eugene and Julia Elizabeth (Williamson) Ragan, who preceded him in death, as did his sisters Sharon Nowell, Rita Freeman, and Phyllis Ragan. He was a source of strength and support for his family, taking special care of his sisters in times of need, a testament to his generous nature.

The legacy Phillip leaves behind is illuminated by the lives of his five children: Patrick, Dillon, John, Julia, and Eric Ragan. Each of them carries a spark of their father's tenacity and kindness. His sisters, Diane King (Virgil), Beverly Jones, and Vicki Massey (Gene), will fondly remember Phillip as a steadfast presence, always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear. His cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense joy, along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, will miss his warmth and wisdom.

Phillip's professional life was marked by his work as a skilled mechanic, specializing in exhaust systems. His expertise and work ethic were well respected within the community, and his advice and craftsmanship were trusted by all who knew him.

Beyond his work, Phillip's passions painted a vivid picture of a life lived to the fullest. His early days as a musician hinted at the creative soul that lay beneath his practical exterior. However, it was on the dirt tracks of the East Alabama Motor Speedway that Phillip truly made his mark. As a race car driver, he was fearless and focused, deftly maneuvering the turns with the same precision he applied to every aspect of his life.

To those who knew him best, Phillip was the epitome of generosity. He gave not only material gifts but also his time, energy, and unwavering support. His legacy is one of selflessness and kindness, traits that will continue to inspire those he has left behind.
