Peggie Watson Smith, 79 of Phenix City, AL, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, September 4, 2021 at her daughter Renee’s home in Smiths Station, Alabama.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 am ET at Colonial Funeral Home, 613 14th Street, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Jody McAllister and Josh Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City. Active Pall-bearers will be Leon Watson, Jr., Ryan Watson, Robbie Watson, Keith Fillingim, Kenneth Fillingim and Nick Pickard. Honorary Pall-bearers will be Evan Kite, Jason Phillips, Tim Jones, Lamar Leaman, Tommy Smith, Shane Smith, Steven Kite, Mike Smith and Zack Smith.
Ms. Smith was born February 18, 1942 in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late John and Florence Watson. She was preceded in death by her late husband Thomas Smith and six brothers and five sisters.
Peggie was retired from the Telephone Company, where she spent 32 1/2 years before taking retirement. Her years of service were spent between Southern Bell and AT&T. She was a member of “Communication Workers of America” and “The Telephone Pioneers”.
After retirement and the death of her husband, she went back to work at Doctors Hospital, where she worked another seven years. After suffering a stroke her daughter Renee talked her into quitting work.
At this time in her life she began spending more time with all her kids and grandkids, which she dearly loved. She also began taking trips with a dear friend of 61 years, William (Bill) Ponder.
She is survived by her daughter Renee and son-in-law Michael Williams, her daughter Donna Rump, daughter Gina and son-in-law Michael McDuffie; her son Jeffery and wife Joyce Ann Smith and son Danny and wife Linda Smith; 18 grandkids and 34 great grandkids and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. You may take food to her home after the service if you wish.
