Olson Hughes Obituary

Olson Gray Hughes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on September 20, 2024, in Columbus, GA, at the age of 92. Born on March 8, 1932, in Gordon, AL, Olson's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions.

Olson's journey through life was one of love, service, and joy. He shared nearly 69 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dorothy Lee Hughes, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised a family that became Olson's pride and joy. His son, Gary Olson Hughes, and his wife Sunirda, his daughter, Lisa Hughes Williams, and her husband Ronald, were the center of his world. Olson's legacy continued to flourish through his adored grandchildren, Victoria Hughes, Lindsey Williams Noles (Dewayne), and Joseph Williams (Chelsea), and his cherished great-grandchildren, Kacie Price, Dylan Price, River Noles, and Brooklyn Noles.

A patriot at heart, Olson served his country with honor in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to quality control at Columbus Mill, where his meticulous nature and strong work ethic were greatly valued.

Olson's love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He found solace in gardening, creating a sanctuary where nature could thrive and where he welcomed birds with food. His garden was a place of beauty and tranquility, reflecting the care and attention he poured into every plant and creature that called it home.

An engaging storyteller, Olson had the unique ability to captivate those around him with tales from days gone by. His love for conversation was matched only by his love for the Lord, and he lived his faith through his actions and his kindness towards others. Olson's grandchildren and his loyal bull mastiff, Tinkerbell, were the recipients of his boundless love and affection. In his earlier years, Olson's adventurous spirit led him to enjoy hunting, fishing, and immersing himself in the pages of a good book. Above all, Olson Gray Hughes was a man who loved his family unconditionally.
