Neil Cameron Obituary

Herbert Neil Cameron, known affectionately by friends and family as Neil, passed away peacefully at his home in Lee County, Alabama, on May 23, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on February 7, 1929, in the same county he would call home for his entire life, Neil was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.

Neil's life was marked by his dedication to his country, his work, and his family. As a young man, he served with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Iceland. His experiences during his service would shape his character and instill in him a sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life. After returning home, Neil became a master electrician and plumber, eventually founding Cameron Plumbing and Electric. His business not only provided for his family but also became a staple in the community, with Neil being highly regarded for both his expertise and his unwavering work ethic.

Family was the cornerstone of Neil's life. He is survived by his loving daughters, Terri Cameron- Renfroe (Bubba) and Christy Chapman, and his cherished grandchildren, Dalton Chapman (Ashlee), Caitlin Chapman, Cameron Chapman (Hannah), and Lauren Dunlap. Neil was also a proud great-grandfather to Aiden Neil Chapman and Ezekiel Lee Chapman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Arlanda Cameron and Vervia Lee Goins Cameron, his brother Dan Cameron, and his grandson Levi Hall. Neil's legacy lives on through the lives of his family, who he supported with unwavering love and pride.

Neil's zest for life was evident in his many interests and hobbies. A longtime member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), he was a well-known and accomplished amateur tennis player, winning numerous titles over the years. His love for the game was matched by his enjoyment of golfing with friends, a pastime that brought him much joy and camaraderie. Neil's presence was a fixture at the local breakfast spot where he and his friends would gather daily to share stories and laughter.

A true family man, Neil was often seen attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sports activities, always willing to lend a hand in getting them to their destinations. He cherished the "Boys Trips" with his friends, which were filled with adventure and lifelong memories. Even into his later years, Neil maintained his independence, taking care of his home and yard with pride. In fact, he was mowing his lawn until just a week before his passing, a testament to his enduring spirit and strength.

Those who knew Neil will remember him as a friendly and generous man who greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word. His presence was a source of stability and warmth, and he was often the one whom others turned to for advice or a helping hand. Neil's impact on his community and the lives of those around him will not be forgotten.

As we say goodbye to Herbert Neil Cameron, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. His remarkable journey from a soldier to a successful business owner, from a devoted family man to a respected member of his community, leaves a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories. Neil's passing is a profound loss, but the values he instilled in his family and the memories shared with friends will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

All services held will be private, as Mr. Cameron will be laid to rest next to his parents and brother at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
