Nani Hulse Obituary

Nani Louise Hulse, a beacon of faith and passion, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 25, 2024, in Seale, Alabama. Born on December 7, 1938, in Honolulu, Hawaii, her life began with the historic backdrop of the Pearl Harbor attack, an event that she witnessed on her third birthday as the planes flew over her home. This early experience of witnessing history left an indelible mark on her and perhaps sowed the seeds of her later interests in travel and storytelling.

Nani's life was one of commitment and love, both to her family and her faith. She shared 64 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John Hulse, a journey that began when they met in California and eventually led them to find their home in Seale, Alabama, in 1991. They built a life together filled with joy and the laughter of family, including their two devoted sons, John Mitchell (Shirley) and Jeff Hulse (Rhonda), and their cherished grandchildren, Jerad, Charles, Gemma, Gabriel, and Annjanett. The family circle extended further with the arrival of her great-grandchild, Jo-Ziah, who brought a new spark of delight to her later years.

Nani's brother, George M. Nellist, and her nieces, April Nellist and Ginger Tang, also survive her, sharing in the family's legacy of love and unity. Her life's journey now continues in the hearts of those she loved, even as she reunites with her parents, George Ferguson and Alice (McLeod) Nellist, and her brother, Russell Mooklar, who preceded her in death.

Professionally, Nani dedicated herself to her work as a medical transcriptionist. Her career, however, was far from the sum total of her contributions to the world. Nani was a devoted Christian who lived her faith actively and shared the message of Jesus with everyone she encountered. She ran a correspondence Bible school, spreading the word of God and touching the lives of many with her wisdom and compassion.

Nani's interests were as rich and varied as her life. A talented painter and writer, she found joy in the art of calligraphy, capturing the beauty of the written word with her skilled hands. Her love for travel took her to many places, yet she found a special connection with the South, which reminded her of her Hawaiian roots. The warmth of the people and the community she found in Alabama resonated deeply with her.

Nani's 64-year marriage was a testament to her passion and commitment, values that she held dear in every aspect of her life. She was a pillar of strength and inspiration, embodying the true essence of being faith-filled. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, devout spirituality, and the pursuit of beauty in all its forms.
