Michael Alan Jenkins, 68, of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, Georgia. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday July15, 2023 at Mt. Zion Methodist Church beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Jenkins was born February 25, 1955 to the late, Arthur Lee Jenkins and Sue Waters-Jenkins in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Smiths Station High School in 1973 and went on to work as a brick and stone mason. He was a believer, who attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Mr. Jenkins was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 1991, his friend and chess master, the late, Gary Bailey initiated a trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a chess tournament against chess sensation Alexander Beliavsky, where Mr. Jenkins won. He also, was an avid Alabama fan. Other than his father, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gladys Armstrong Carroll, Paul Cecil Carroll, John Odell Jenkins, and Levie H. Jenkins;, Robert Lee Waters and Uncle Gene D. Waters, and one cousin, Gerald Jenkins.
Surviving are his mother, Nan Sue Waters-Jenkins; sister, Angela Lynne Jenkins; brother, James G. Jenkins, Sr.; nieces and nephews, Brandon Meeks, Cherie Straker, Amanda Holland, Delaney Michas, and James Gregory Jenkins, Jr.; great-nieces and nephews, Stephen Jerome, Tyman Ledbetter, Cash Freese, Cayden Straker, and Gabriel Murray; aunt, Johnnie Waters; cousins, Rhonda Waters, Rita Waters, Bo Waters, Todd Waters, Ann Martin Bledsoe, Christopher Warren Jenkins, and Susan Jenkins Howard; and many other friends.
