Matthew "Matt" McClain

Matthew "Matt" Gus McClain, 39, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on April 1, 2025, in Salem, Alabama, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 7, 1985, in Tallahassee, Matt was a bright spark in the lives of all who knew him, carrying an infectious humor and a spirit that could not be dimmed. 

Matt was the beloved husband of Joyce McClain, with whom he shared a life full of laughter and love. He was a devoted father to his five children, Raeleigh, Elizabeth, Jonah, Noah, Meri, and niece-daughter Faith, and a doting grandfather to Nora and Ryker. He also leaves behind an extensive family, including ten siblings: Shanna Whitley, John Ford, James Martin, Dawn Clark, Tamara Hartley, Pattie Thompson, Jesse McClain, Marcus McClain, Kenneth McClain, and Devontae "Miami" Shorter and numerous nieces, nephews aunts and cousins.  Matt was the cornerstone of his family, the one who brought everyone together, and was affectionately regarded as the favorite among them. The family dogs, Harley, Dudley, Theo and cat, Finny, were cherished and loved by Matt. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Patricia McClain.  

For sixteen years, Matt dedicated himself to serving the community through his work with the Columbus Consolidated Government in the Forestry Department. His commitment to his profession was paralleled only by his dedication to his family and friends. 

Matt was a man of many interests, but some of his favorites included singing his heart out during karaoke nights, navigating trails on his 4-wheeler, and mastering the grill for Sunday family gatherings. His sense of humor was unparalleled; he had a unique talent for joking and playfully embarrassing family members, all in good spirit, making every moment with him memorable and full of joy. 

Described by those who knew him best as funny and spirited, Matt's ability to light up any room was unmatched. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and his legacy is one of unbridled joy and unity. 

Funeral services to honor and celebrate the life of Matthew Gus McClain will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at 1:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home, where his memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Family will receive friends post service at their home.
