Mary Lindley Obituary

Mary K Lindley, a cherished matriarch, and long-time resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at the venerable age of 97. Born on January 20, 1928, in Columbus, Georgia, Mary's life was one deeply rooted in the community she loved.

Mary's early years were spent surrounded by family; her parents, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins, where she matured into a bright and spirited young woman. After graduating from Central High School in 1940, she entered the workforce at Bibb Mill, where she was known for her diligent work ethic and amiable personality. It didn’t hurt that her Aunt Eula ran the place. She married Jim Lindley Sr., a serviceman stationed at Fort Benning, and together they embarked on a journey that would take them to the corners of Europe, living in both France and Germany.

Ultimately, Mary and Jim Sr. decided to plant their roots close to home, settling down around the corner from her beloved parents. It was there that Mary embraced her most fulfilling role, that of a devoted mother and homemaker. She created a warm and loving environment that became the foundation of cherished family memories.

Mary's legacy is carried on through her three adoring children - Sharon Annette Lindley, Jim Lindley Jr. (Marie), and Darleen Lindley. They will continue to honor her memory by embodying the values she instilled in them. She also leaves behind her brother Donald Killingsworth and sister-in-law Viron, sister-in-law Javonda Killingsworth, sister-in-law Betty Turner and grandson Jonathan Lindley and multiple nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim, her parents Lois and Frank Killingsworth and brothers Frank Killingsworth Jr.,  Alquin Killingsworth and sister in law Jean Killingsworth.

After Jim (husband) retired from the military, Mary experienced so many trips traveling around the country with Jim’s brother Jack and wife Dorothy. She could have written a wonderful book with all the antics they got into. She was a passionate animal lover who supported, as she could, many different animal rescues. She missed her beloved cat Ernie the most.

In her passing, Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness. Mary K Lindley's story is not just one of years lived, but of a life well-lived, and she will be remembered with love and admiration by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
