Mary Estelle Bass, a beacon of love and family devotion, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 80 in Phenix City, Alabama. Born on October 26, 1944, in Nahunta, Georgia, Mary's life was a testament to the strength and warmth of her spirit.
Surviving Mary are her two devoted children, Bill Bass (Lori), and Mary Bickerstaff (Curtis), who will carry on her legacy of kindness and compassion. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Garrett James Bass (Averi), Miranda Hope Hart (Robert), Garrett James Bickerstaff, (Jennifer), Christen Allison (Alex) as well as great grandchildren, Sophia Wiley Hart, Taylor Grace Hart, Francis "Frankie" James Fleitas and Zander Allison.
Mary's life was marked by the deep bonds she shared with her family, and her guidance and wisdom will be missed every day. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Ervin and Mamie Johns O'Neal, and her eight siblings, Sarah Jane O'Neal Wainright, Robert Nolan O'Neal, Calvin O'Neal, Joseph Loyd O'Neal, Eugene Mizell O'Neal, Ella Mae Whitlock, Charlie Gilbert O'Neal, and Lucy Virginia O'Neal.
Throughout her life, Mary held a special place in her heart for her role as a cashier at Goodwill, where she not only served her community but also formed lasting relationships with those she met. Her colleagues and customers alike were drawn to her loving nature and her ability to make everyone feel valued.
Mary's interests were a reflection of her caring and nurturing personality. She was an ardent dog lover, always ensuring that her furry companions felt just as much a part of the family as anyone else. Her love for animals was just one aspect of her generous spirit. She also enjoyed word searches, a hobby that kept her mind sharp and provided countless hours of relaxation.
Among her favorite pastimes was spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She relished in cook outs with her family. Mary was also skilled in crochet, creating beautiful pieces that served as warm reminders of her talent and thoughtfulness.
Mary Estelle Bass will be remembered for her loving heart and the care she bestowed upon everyone she met. . Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told and the love she left behind. A Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday September 26th from 12-2PM at Crawford United Methodist Church with a private burial to be held at a later date. The family is accepting flowers.
