Marilyn Norman Obituary

Marilyn Norman, a cherished soul, passed away at the age of 79 on January 11, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on April 24, 1946, in Pike County, Alabama, she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Oakes. Marilyn's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service.

Marilyn's journey through life was one of joy and commitment, especially to her family. She found her lifelong partner in Linard Norman, and together they built a foundation of love that lasted 59 years. Their union was blessed with a daughter, the late Vanessa Sipple (her surviving spouse, Adrian) whose memory remains a beacon of love in their hearts. Marilyn's nurturing spirit extended to her cherished grandchild, Amy Carver (Josh), and her adored great-grandchildren, Kinsey, Jace, and Vivian, who brought her immeasurable joy. Additionally, her nephew Michael Poindexter (Barbara), whom she loved as a son, is among those who will carry her legacy forward.

Marilyn's home was a haven of comfort. She was renowned for her fantastic Southern fried chicken. Her kitchen was not just a place of culinary creation but a center of gathering, laughter, and the creation of countless cherished memories. She took immense pleasure in caring for others, whether through her cooking or in the simple acts of kindness that defined her character. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together but above everything she loved taking care of her grandchild and great grandchildren. Time spent with them was her favorite.

A visitation to honor Marilyn's life will be held on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, from 6:00 PM EST to 8:00 PM EST at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama.
