Margaret Hughes Williams, 91, of Phenix City, AL passed away Sunday, April 09, 2023 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Abrams officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Trinity.
Margaret was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Eli Hughes and Daisy Lee (Skinner) Hughes. As a child in Tuscaloosa, she grew up across the street from what was then known as Denny Stadium, home to Crimson Tide football. She would go on to attend the University of Alabama and remained a devoted fan and ultimate supporter of her Crimson Tide throughout her life.
Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and daughter, who nurtured her family and friendships. After moving to Phenix City, Margaret joined Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served as a loyal member for more than 60 years. She cherished her church family.
She was an avid photographer and gardener, winning numerous awards and ribbons for her talents at shows. For many years she enjoyed playing bridge with special friends. She was also an aficionado of black and white film, always enjoying watching the old Hollywood greats and listening to many genres of music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank W. Williams Jr. and son, Frank W. "Frankie" Williams III.
Margaret is survived by cousins Nancy Hurlbut, Niki Hurlbut, Steven Hurlbut, Ethan Hurlbut, Kaye Cutchen, Robin Wade (Ricky), Katie Wade, Kelly Wade, Andy Cutchen (Amanda), Bryson Cutchen, Brooklyn Cutchen and numerous additional cousins; sister-in-law, Catherine W. Doyle; nephew Jimmy Doyle; niece Anne Colafrancesco, 8 great nieces and nephews; 19 great-great nieces and nephews; 2 great-great-great nieces and nephews; Sherry Bunn (Jeff), godchildren, Ellis Bunn and Mason Bunn; special friend and caregiver Marie Lindley.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Phenix City, Alabama and Big Oak Ranch of Gadsden, Alabama.
