Mabry "Butch" Brooker

Mabry Freddie “Butch” Brooker, 76, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on October 22, 2023, surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Mays Brooker and parents, Freddie Brooker, and Eloise (Herrin) Schutte.

Mabry was born in Nahunta, Georgia on March 14, 1947. Two days after his 18th birthday, in 1965, he joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, and enlisted as a sharpshooter.

Married to his childhood sweetheart for 52 years and survived by two children, Theresa Cornelius (Scott) and Shannon Brooker, four grandchildren, Brooks Cornelius, Harris Cornelius, Montana Kalish, Landon Brooker and two brothers, Greg Schutte and Rick Schutte.

Mr. Brooker retired from civil service with the army under the Department of Military Police, Fort Benning, Georgia.

When not working, Butch was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking in his shop. After the death of his wife Shirley, Butch visited the cemetery every single day, rain, or shine, until his health failed him.

He was an active member of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church. A private burial service will be 12pm Thursday, October 26 at Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City, Alabama.
