Mrs. Lora Whitaker Strickland, age 78, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 29, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.
Mrs. Strickland will lie in state at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-8 pm while the family is receiving friends.
Lora Lorene Whitaker was born on April 27, 1944 in Panama City, Florida to the late Walter Lee and Clyde Adel Watford Whitaker. She retired from Bellsouth (AT&T) with over 20 years service as a communications operator. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, puzzles, coloring, Alabama Football, the beach, and spending time with her grandkids and family. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Laverne Strickland; great grandson, Chase Aiden Taylor; sister, Vera Mae Smith; and a brother, Denton Welton "Jack" Whitaker.
Surviving are her children; Sharon (Chris) Berdeaux of Beauregard, Alabama, Lamar (Sandra) Caraway of Phenix City, Alabama, James "Bo" (Lisa) Strickland of Seale, Alabama, Walter (Stephanie) Strickland of Phenix City, Alabama, and Wesley "Wes" Strickland of Phenix City, Alabama; sister, Melba Jane Whitaker of Columbus, Georgia; brother, Jerry William Whitaker; 8 grandchildren; Samantha (Ben), Corey, Whitley, JJ, Dalton, Clay, Christina and Wyatt. 1 great grandchild, Lawson; 2 god granddaughters, Jamee Sue Reeves and Bailey Ann Reeves. Several nieces, nephews, and close personal friends of the family.
