Lee Hayes Obituary

Lee Thomason Hayes, known affectionately as Lee to his family and friends, passed away at his home in Phenix City, Alabama, on July 29, 2025. Born on August 29, 1962, in Columbus, Georgia, Lee's life was marked by his intelligence, generosity, and a deep love for education and nature.

Lee was the beloved twin brother of Lennard Taylor Hayes and his wife Norma Jean, and brother to Joseph William Hayes and his wife Laurie. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews, who will miss his wisdom and gentle guidance. Lee was preceded in death by his loving parents, Bobby Price Hayes and June Lenora Thomason Hayes, as well as his brother, Bobby Price Hayes, Jr. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

An alumnus of Auburn University, Lee earned his Master's degree in Education and Administration, a testament to his lifelong commitment to learning and teaching. His professional journey was deeply entwined with the Chambers County school system, where he dedicated 24 years of service. Lee also imparted knowledge and guidance in Valley and Lanett, Alabama, and served with distinction as an assistant principal in Roanoke, Alabama.

Lee's contributions to education extended beyond the classroom. His innovative spirit led him to build a greenhouse within the school system, equipped with a hydro phonic system. The fruits of his labor were generously given to children's home, nursing homes, and needy families, demonstrating his selfless nature and commitment to community wellbeing. His creation of an aqua phonic system, utilizing a Tilapia fish tank to water plants, showcased his ingenuity and passion for sustainable practices.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Lee was a man of diverse interests. He was an avid reader, loved music and playing the guitar, a lover of cats, and an enthusiast of all things related to guns, hunting, and fishing. His adventurous spirit took him traveling across Europe, Scotland, and Alaska, and he relished the experience of cruising on the open seas. Lee's green thumb was evident in his love for plants, and his joy in sharing the beauty and bounty of his garden was unmatched.

Lee's life was a testament to the impact one individual can have on the lives of many. His intelligence shone through in every aspect of his life, from his academic achievements to the practical application of his knowledge in improving the lives of others. Lee will be remembered not only for what he accomplished but also for the kindness, dedication, and love he shared with the world.
