Mr. Long passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at his home in Phenix City, Alabama. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama.
He was born August 12, 1941 in Haines City, Florida to Othal Alvin Long and Iris Louise Long. Mr. Long was out lived by his younger brother, Michael Todd Long of Columbus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Louise Rawlinson of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, and Robin Lynn Humiston of Columbus, Georgia and his brothers Donald Murray Long and Thomas Lemuel Long both of Columbus, Georgia.
After graduation from Baker High School in 1960, Mr. Long joined the Air Force and spent the next four years at several stations all over the world He returned home in 1965 and started working for R.C. Cola as Route Salesman and soon was promoted to Sales Manager. He left R,C. Cola in 1977 and began working for Pepsi Cola Company as sales manager until 1997.
Larry played basketball all through High School and after returning home from the Air Force he renewed his love for basketball and began playing for the Columbus Industrial League for approximately 12 years.
After leaving Pepsi Cola Company, Larry worked several part time jobs and at 68 years he was still not ready to quit. He began working for Groom Transport Company part-time and worked there for the next 10 years until the age of 77.
Larry is survived by a son, David Scott Long; grandchildren, Colton Gage Long of Phenix City, Alabama; Dawson Brier Scott Long, and Carson Tanner Scott Long of Smiths, Alabama, all the loves of his life.
