Larry Gold Obituary

Larry Locker Gold, born on February 1, 1949, in Pasadena, California, passed away peacefully at his home in Seale, Alabama on January 12, 2025. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Glen William Gold, and his parents William Roy Gold and Helen Ferguson Gold.  Larry is survived by his wife, Suzanne Moore, his sister Janet Gold Kennington, his sons, Glen Cody Gold (wife Jennifer) and Michael William Gold (husband Shane), and his twin granddaughters Lila Rae and Kira Lynn Gold.

Larry was passionate about boating and built a successful career in the boating and aerospace industries.  As a teenager he worked at a local boating supply shop in Balboa, California, and at the peak of his career, he was a regional sales manager for the Southeastern United States, Central and South America for AkzoNobel.  He met his former wife, Wendy Vickers Gold, while working at Cal Yachts in Costa Mesa, California in 1977.  In the early 80’s he was transferred to Tampa, Florida where his two sons were born.  Larry loved the classic 1969 Cheetah jet boat his father purchased new, and gifted to Larry, who subsequently owned the boat for the rest of his life.  Larry was an expert water skier, mechanic, woodworker and craftsman.  He even built custom wooden water skis for his friends and family.

In the early 2000’s, Larry retired with his present wife, Suzanne Moore-Gold, to Seale, Alabama where they purchased a farm and formed Bow Wows and Meows Pet Rescue.  Over the past 19 years, Larry helped save the lives of over 2000 puppies and adult dogs that were sent to approved families up north.  He enjoyed taking care of the farm and mowing the large rolling pastures, relating the chore to the calming activity of sailing a sailboat on the ocean.

He will be remembered as a great friend, father, grandfather and husband who willingly shared his knowledge, skills, time and laughter with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  Larry's Dad introduced him to boats, lakes and oceans and as such Larry passed onto future generations the call of boats and water. His voyage may have ended, but his spirit will forever sail on in the hearts of those he touched.
