Joseph "Stanley" King Obituary

Joseph Stanley King, better known as Stanley, a cherished son, brother and uncle, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on August 11, 1950, in Troy Alabama, to Johnnie McNair King and Voncile Coston King, Stanley then moved to Phenix City Alabama during his adolescence where he graduated from Central High School .

Stanley became a familiar face at the local Piggly Wiggly, where he was known as the hardworking and helpful bagger who always greeted customers with a smile. His dedication to his work was only matched by his commitment to his community, as he spent countless hours helping at the Boys Club, where he made a positive impact on the lives of many young people.

A member of the Golden Acres Baptist Church, Stanley's faith was a cornerstone of his existence. He lived his beliefs through acts of kindness and enjoyed being available to his friends and family if needed.

Stanley's interests were a reflection of his personality—genuine, warm, and rooted in tradition. An avid collector of hats, each one had its own story and significance. His passion for the Andy Griffith Show was more than just a pastime; it was a connection to the wholesome values and humor that he so appreciated. Also, when it came to Braves Baseball and Alabama football, Stanley was a true fan, embodying the spirit and camaraderie that the games inspires.

Stanley's family was the light of his life, and he is survived by his nephew, Joey King, and his wife, Vangie, who will miss him dearly as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Voncile King; his father, Johnnie McNair King; and his two brothers, Johnnie Mack King and Billy King. The legacy of love and family he leaves behind will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

Stanley's life was a simple one, filled with family, church, baseball, and good food. He enjoyed sitting on the porch people watching, waving at neighbors, going out to eat, visiting his cousins and attending family reunions. He loved to be the center of attention and was at his very best when being showered with quality time and love from his family and friends.

A Memorial Service for Joseph Stanley King will be held at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL on Wednesday September 3 at 2PM EST.
