John Patrick Macon, affectionately known as Patrick to his friends and family, passed away on
his 46th birthday, September 17, 2025, in Phenix City, Alabama. Born in Columbus, Georgia, in
1979 to Joseph Macon Sr. and Patricia (Hughes) Fussell, Patrick grew up surrounded by the
love and warmth of a large and vibrant family.
Patrick's life was one marked by devotion and kindness, a legacy that will be carried on by his
beloved spouse, Amanda Macon; his cherished daughter, Haley Macon (Samuel Shorpshire);
and his adored grandchild, Wrenleigh Shropshire. He will also be lovingly remembered by his
four siblings: Pamela Mitchell (Mike), Chris Cotton (Christa), David Fussell (Charla), and
Rodney Cotton; as well as his nieces Allison (Justin), Lilly (Blake), Cheyenne, and Brentleigh,
and his nephews Bentley and Dawson. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph
Macon Sr. and Patricia (Hughes) Fussell, his stepfather, Frank Fussell and his grandparents,
Royce and Mary Hughes.
With a marriage spanning a beautiful 25 years, Patrick and Amanda's partnership was a
testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they builta family based on the
values of kindness and generosity, attributes that Patrick embodied throughout his life.
Patrick's professional life was dedicated to service at RCI Recover Columbus Incorporated, where he
worked with commitment and compassion.
Outside of work, Patrick's interests were as rich and varied as his character. An avid
outdoorsman, he relished going for rides, being on his 4-wheeler, fishing in the tranquil waters
of Georgia, and deer hunting in the crisp autumn air. He shared a special bond with his dogs,
Daisy Mae and Harley Quinn, and his cat, Lady Bug. Whether cheering on the UGA Bulldogs or
spending quality time with his daughter and granddaughter, Patrick embraced every moment with zest and
enthusiasm.
Above al, Patrick will be remembered as a kind-hearted individual who brought joy to those
around him.
A memorial service to celebrate Patrick's life will be held on Tuesday, September 23, at 2 PM
EST at Colonial Funeral Home. The service will be an opportunity for friends, family, and loved
ones to come together and honor a man whose life was as beautiful as the legacy he leaves
behind.
