John Estes Obituary

John Robert Estes, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, at his home in Smiths Station, Alabama. Born on January 25, 1942, in Opelika, Alabama, John's life was one marked by dedication, service, and the love of his family.

John was the beloved son of the late Charlie David Estes and Florence Alma Estes. His life was a testament to the values instilled in him by his parents, which he carried forward as a devoted husband to his wife, Dorothy Estes, and as a loving father to his children, John Eric Estes, Stephen Mark Estes, and Tracy Bruce. His role as a grandfather to Kristen Sheldon, Justin Bruce, Gade Estes, Stephen Estes, and Joseph Estes, and as a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, was one he cherished deeply.

John served his community with honor and distinction as a law enforcement officer, where he retired as an investigator at the District Attorney’s office after 34 years. His commitment to justice and public safety was unwavering. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and dedication, someone who always went above and beyond the call of duty.

John's interests outside of work were as rich and varied as his professional life. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in hunting and fishing, often sharing these passions with his friends and family. His collection of guns was not just a hobby but a reflection of his appreciation for craftsmanship and history.

A man of faith, John was a long-standing member of the Smiths Station Baptist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and a community that shared his values. His presence in the congregation will be deeply missed, as will his unwavering support and kindness.

A memorial service to honor John’s life will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama with Dr. David Kees officiating.
