Obituary
Joel L. Shumate 34, of Valley, Alabama passed away Sunday in Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. est. September 13, 2023 at Colonial Funeral Home with burial at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. est.
Joel was born February 24, 1989 in Columbus, Georgia to Joel R. Shumate Jr. and Marie DuBois. He was a member of Asphalt Cowboys Riding Club serving as Road Captain. Joel enjoyed his career as a truck driver and being a proud uncle.
He is survived by his parents, Joel R. Shumate, Jr. of Fort Mitchell, AL, and Marie DuBois of Valley, AL., Sister Bree DuBois, Step sister Nycole Barfield, Aunt Corinne Vallejo, Uncle's Rene' DuBois, Roger Tanton, Kevin DuBois, Gene Shumate, Brian Shumate, Nephew Cam DuBois, and Niece Kyndal Barfield, and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. A couple of his claimed brothers from other mothers, Steven Kite, and Benjiman Cribb. He was preceded in death by his cousin Chad DuBois, Uncle Marshall DuBois, Jr, as well as all of his grandparents. His grandmother, Eileen, passed on the same day (Sept. 10) 31 years prior.
