Joanne "Jo" Vazquez

Joanne "Jo" Rita Vazquez, a cherished soul known for her boundless love and creative spirit, passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 64, in her hometown of Columbus, Georgia. Born on November 22, 1960, to Joseph and Lydia Powell, Jo's life was one marked by devotion to her family, a passion for her work, and a heart full of kindness.

Jo's journey began in the vibrant community of Columbus, where she grew up surrounded by the warmth of her family and friends. After completing her education, she discovered her talent and passion for beauty and care, which led her to a fulfilling career as a self-employed nail technician. Her gentle touch and warm conversation made her not just a favorite in her profession but also a friend to those who knew her.

The true testament to Jo's loving nature was her 43-year-long marriage to her beloved husband, Tomas Vazquez. Their enduring partnership was a source of strength and joy in her life. Together, they welcomed their son, Kalan Michael Vazquez, into the world, and Jo embraced motherhood with the same enthusiasm and love that she applied to all aspects of her life. Her sister, Claudia Fitzgerald, also played a significant role in her life, sharing in the ups and downs and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Jo's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She was an avid cat lover, and that brought her immense joy and companionship. Her creativity knew no bounds, as she found solace and expression in crafts, dolls, sewing and working on impressive DIY projects. Each new thing she created was imbued with the love and care that she applied to all facets of her life.

Jo is survived by her steadfast husband, Tomas, her devoted son, Kalan, and her caring sister, Claudia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lydia Powell, who instilled in her the values of compassion and generosity that she carried throughout her life.

As we say goodbye to Jo Vazquez, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was. Her legacy of love, creativity, and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us.
