Jerry Roger Herring, 81, of Salem, Alabama passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, Georgia with his children at his side.
Mr. Herring was born January 31, 1940 in Donalsonville, Georgia to the late, Durwood Daniel Herring and Cecil Horn Herring. Other than his parents, Mr. Herring is preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Horn. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School, class of 1958. He relocated to the Chattahoochee Valley area in the early 60's with his first wife and began a family here. He worked as a terminal manager for Transus, Incorporated before becoming self-employed, owning his own trucking company. In retirement, he spent time attending his grandchildren's extracurricular activities, tinkering with antique cars, growing his fruits and vegetables and fishing and lunching with his brothers and best friends.
His family was always the most cherished thing to him and his love for them was evident by his deliberate actions. He is survived by his daughter, Teri Williams, husband Fred of Phenix City, AL; son, Randy Herring, wife Bridgette of Salem, AL; four grandchildren, Hannah Williams, fiance Taylor Smith of Columbus, GA, Tyler Williams of Phenix City, AL, Jonah Herring of San Antonio, TX, and Joshua Herring of Salem, AL; two brothers, Jimmy Herring, wife Lynn of Thomaston, GA and Billy Herring, wife Jeanette of Newnan, GA; great-granddaughter, Mazie Jane Smith; mother of his children, Joice Linander of Phenix City, AL.; second wife, Joan Holton of Phenix City, AL; step-daughter, Kristi Wilmer; numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.
At his request the family is having a Celebration of Life this Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM EST at their home on Lake Harding in Salem, AL .
