Jerry E. Free, 64, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM ET at Colonial Funeral Home with Pastor Brad McDaniel and Pastor Jared Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM ET at the funeral home. The family asks everyone to wear their Alabama shirts to the service. The service will also be live streamed on Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory's facebook page.
Mr. Free was born September 17, 1956 in Columbus, Georgia to the late, John Lacey Free and Willie "Jane" Wilson Higdon. He worked as a maintenance contractor on Fort Benning. Mr. Free was a member of New Beginnings Fellowship and Glenn Anthony Baptist Church. He was named "Gospel Fan Favorite of 2019" by TCVSGMA, was active in local missions and food banks, and was an avid Alabama football fan. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, James Free.
Surviving are his three sons, Jerry S. Free (Bree), Justin Fentress (Haley), and Jarett Free; one daughter, Natasha Free; two sisters, Barbara Burgess (Tom) and Sharon Spivey; one brother, John Free (Deborah); nine grandchildren, Eloise Fentress, Ray Lynn Fentress, Cohen Fentress, Hannah Free, Cindy Free, Noah Free, Trinity Free, Tyler Free, and Trenton Free; one great-granddaughter, India Free.
