Jeanette Byrd Fryer, 89, of Box Springs, GA, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025. Born to Walter Byrd and Nannie (Currington) Byrd on June 6, 1935, in Juniper, Georgia, Jeanette lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and a touch that turned the ordinary into something beautiful.
Jeanette's early years in Juniper were the foundation of a life filled with love and service. After marrying Lewis Fryer, she embraced her role as a mother and homemaker with a passion that only grew with time. She and Lewis shared a deep bond until his passing, a partnership that was a testament to commitment and mutual respect.
Jeanette's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her three daughters, Cathy Jane Melton, Cherie Hart, and Retina Mayer (Harry). Her life was further enriched by her eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who will remember her as a beacon of love and guidance. Her sisters, Jane Parks and LuPearl Fryer, will hold dear the memories of their sister's unwavering support and friendship. Jeanette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis Fryer, and her sons, George and Perry Fryer.
The community of Box Springs will remember Jeanette as more than just a resident. Her involvement in New Life Baptist Church was a testament to her faith and her steadfast belief in community service. She served as a prayer warrior, participated in Bible ministry, and shared her musical talents as a pianist. Jeanette's hands were rarely still, as she found joy in sewing as a seamstress and reaching out to others through her card ministry.
Jeanette's home was a place of refuge, not just for her family but for anyone in need. As a caregiver, she made everyone feel loved, listened to, and important. Her ability to make each individual feel like the center of her world was a rare gift that endeared her to many.
A visitation to honor Jeanette's life will be held on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Life Baptist Church. A service celebrating her faith and her journey home will be held on Friday, May 9th, at 11 AM at New Life Baptist Church with burial to follow in Pine Level Cemetery.
Jeanette's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of faith, family, and friendship. Her story is not one of an ending but a continuing legacy that will be cherished and lived out by those she loved. As we say goodbye to Jeanette Byrd Fryer, we also say thank you—for the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the grace with which she walked through this world. Her memory will be held in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, forever a guiding light of what it means to love unconditionally.
