James David Childs, known affectionately as David to his friends and family, passed away on December 3, 2024, in Phenix City, Alabama, at the age of 77. Born on June 4, 1947, in Columbus, Georgia, David's life was one marked by devotion to his loved ones, a passion for his interests, and a commitment to his community.
David is survived by his loving wife, Terri Childs, and their children: Lori Wall, James "Ray" Childs, Brian Childs (Cissy), and Eric Childs (Ashley). He was a proud grandfather to Austin, Ashton, Brannon, and Lilly, and a step-grandfather to Kenzie, Mina, Mack Attack, Bentley, Hayden, Sebastian, Jayden, Emma, and Nate. His legacy continues to grow with one great-grandchild and another on the way. David's life was also enriched by the love and support of his sisters, Joyce Spivey and Patti Curbow.
The Childs family would like to extend a special acknowledgment to David's lifelong friend, Ken Medlock from Arizona, who shared a bond with David since they were three years old. Additionally, they express heartfelt gratitude to John and Liz McCoy, David's cherished Church family and siblings in Christ, for their unwavering friendship and support.
David's career was characterized by his work as a marketing representative and collector, from which he retired from Title Credit. His professional life was marked by integrity, dedication, and a warm camaraderie with his colleagues.
A true fan at heart, David's enthusiasm for the Atlanta Braves and Alabama football was infectious. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as bowling and savoring good food. David's presence was a constant in Phenix City, Alabama, the place he was proud to call home.
His faith played a central role in his life, and he was a devoted member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama. David's commitment to his faith was evident in his actions and the way he lived his life, always striving to be a reflection of the love and grace he found in his beliefs.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET at Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama with Pastor Lynn McManious officiating. Flowers will be accepted, but those who wish may make memorial contributions to Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama.
