James "Bruce" Holmes Obituary

James Bruce Holmes, known affectionately as Bruce, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, in his hometown of Columbus, Georgia. Born on April 7, 1956, Bruce was a beacon of strength and joy in the lives of all who knew him. At the age of 69, he left this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Bruce was the beloved son of Loyce Holmes and Mary Nell "Griffin" Holmes. His roots were deep in Columbus, where he grew up in Cascade Village Community. He leaves behind a wife, Sherry McGuinty Holmes.

Bruce was a proud father to his children, Mack Daughtery of Smiths Station, Alabama, and Stacey O'Neal. Bruce's spirit will live on through his three grandchildren, Brittney Taltowicz, Alysia Holmes, and Ashlyn Holmes, who will remember him fondly. He was proceeded in death by son Jamie Holmes.

After completing his education in Smiths Station, Alabama, Bruce ventured into the world of construction, where he made a name for himself through his dedication and craftsmanship. His work was not just a job; it was a passion, a means to create and build for the future. Bruce's love for construction was paralleled only by his love for dancing.

An athlete at heart, Bruce played football in his younger years, demonstrating the same teamwork and determination that he would later carry into all aspects of his life. He was a favorite at the family BBQ place, Papa Joe's, where he was often seen working the BBQ pitt.

As we say goodbye to Bruce, we celebrate a life well-lived and well-loved. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived but also for the lives he touched. Bruce's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds he created with his family and friends.

In honoring Bruce's memory, we recall the words of an unknown author: "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Bruce's spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and he will forever remain a part of the hearts he has left behind.
