James Larry Williford Sr., a cherished family man, and respected community member, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on October 26, 1945, in Dothan, Alabama, to Curtis Clyde Williford and Betty Jo Pizzlatto, James grew up to be a man of many talents and a heart full of generosity.
James's life journey was marked by hard work and dedication. He honed his skills in various trades, including body shop work, painting, and laboring in the orange groves and dairy farms of Florida. His meticulous nature and keen eye for detail led him to a successful career as an appraiser of large equipment and property. A proud Mason, James was deeply involved in his association, exemplifying the values of brotherhood, integrity, and community service.
A devout member of Grace Freewill Baptist, James found solace and joy in his faith. His love for Auburn football, old country music, gospel tunes, and western films were well-known to his friends and family. An avid deer hunter, he often regaled his loved ones with tales of the great outdoors.
James's generosity knew no bounds. He was a man who gave freely and loved deeply. His laughter was contagious, and his presence, a comfort to all who knew him. He was a beacon of strength and kindness, and his legacy is one of unwavering love and selfless giving.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Charlotte Story Williford; his children, Steven D. Williford (Karen), James Larry Williford Jr., Cynthia Diane Fuller (Mark), Brenda Joyce Collins (Dallas), Pamela Denise Barker, and step-son Shane Renfroe (Tina). His ten grandchildren, April, Crystal, Brian, Dillon, Megan, Gabriel, Daniel, Brina, Jared, and Autumn will miss their grandfather's warmth and guidance. He also leaves behind his sister, Rebecca Dianne Gilley, and his aunt, Frances, who will remember James with fondness and deep appreciation for the moments they shared.
James was preceded in death by his former spouses, Betty Jean Williford and Margaret Renfroe; his daughter, Betty Ann Williford; and siblings, Robert Allen Williford, Henry Eugene Williford, Bobby Williford, and Elaine Williford. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and their memories continue to live on through the stories he shared.
