James Robert Smith, 67, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Parkwood Health Care in Phenix City, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 4:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home with Jeff Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born September 20, 1956 to the late, Joseph Dean Smith and Peggy Ann Smith. He worked many years at Fieldcrest Mills and as a truck driver for Boral Bricks. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, softball, and spending money. Mr. Smith was a die-hard Auburn fan, but more than anything loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Carol Smith; one son, Terry Smith; sister, Bertie Dean; two brothers, Joseph Smith and Bobby Smith; and cousin, Paul Peterson.
Surviving are his three daughters, Dee Dee Perriera (Vic), Janie Mathis and Penny Walker; son, Charles Mathis; grandchildren, Courtney (Robert), Brittany, James (Tabitha), and Chris; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Wanda Stewart, Diane Shivers, Myrtle Lester, and Lisa Bowman; aunt, Linda Gail; cousins, Jeff Peterson and Kay; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
