James D. Hawthorne 69, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Sunday at his home peacefully surrounded by his loving wife, his sons, daughter in loves and grandson Hunter. Memorial Services will be held Saturday August 19, 2023 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 11 a.m. est.
James was born December 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia to the late James and Myra Hawthorne. He retired from Griggs Oil. A Baptist by faith he always loved his family and especially his wife Kay, she was his best friend and his whole world. James was an outdoorsman at heart. He cherished every moment he got in the woods. He was so very proud that his boys loved it just as much as he did, they will share those memories forever. Throughout his years of hunting James made many lifelong friendships. James loved to fish; he loved it. He fished any chance he got, whether that be chasing bass in the local Master Bass Jon Boat tournaments or chasing big red snapper and grouper across the big pond. He would jump at any chance to be out in the ocean doing what he loved. He passed that passion down to his sons and they made sure he was there for every single memory that he could be. One of James favorite things to do was to watch the braves games with his wife Kay. James was a family man. His wife, children, grandchildren, and daughter in laws were his world. He never missed a Holiday. He was a man of his word; a handshake was just as good as a signature. He meant what he said, and he was going to stand behind it. He was a simple man, if you were lucky enough to become a friend, I promise you learned something from him. He was a devoted Husband, Father (in law), Grandfather and Friend.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Kay Hawthorne of Phenix City, AL. Sons Rodney (Tawana) Berry of Alex City, AL. Chas (Ashley) Hawthorne of Hamilton, GA. Justin (Linley) Hawthorne of Salem, AL.
