James Lester Grimsley, a man of abundant humor, friendliness, and a knack for fixing anything he laid his hands on, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, in Marion County, Georgia. Born on May 10, 1949, in the heart of Georgia, he lived a full and vibrant life, marked by his devotion to his family, his faith, and his myriad of interests that ranged from classic cars to the tranquility of farm life.
James, affectionately known by all who knew him as a jack of all trades, owned several successful businesses throughout his lifetime, including a landscaping company and a pallet manufacturing enterprise. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his unwavering work ethic and his ability to create and nurture relationships within his community.
He was a Freewill Baptist by faith, he lived his faith through action and service. His love for his 1966 Mustang was well-known, as was his passion for horses, milking cows, and farming. James found joy in the simplicity of nature and the care of the land, often sharing the fruits of his labor, including his famous boiled peanuts, which were a beloved treat among friends and family.
James's family was the center of his world, His beloved wife of 40 years, Rose M. Grimsley, survives him. He raised four sons, Jason, Jody (Jamie), Justin (Brandi), and Derek (Sara), who will carry on his legacy of love, resilience, and the value of a good laugh.
His life was further enriched by his seven grandchildren, Austin, Kyndal, Erica, Baylor, Olivia, Caden, and Emmy, who will miss their grandfather's stories, wisdom, and the warmth of his embrace. James also leaves behind two brothers, Kenneth Grimsley (Linda) and Guy Grimsley (Kay), who will remember him for his camaraderie and the shared memories of their youth.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Beatrice Grimsley, and his brother, Gary Grimsley. He will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a reliable confidant, and a source of joy and laughter for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The community will have the opportunity to pay their respects to James during visitation on Monday, July 28th, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. A funeral service honoring his life will be held on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, at 11:00 AM ET at New Life Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Larry Deloach. James will be laid to rest following the service, surrounded by the beautiful Georgian landscape he so dearly loved.
