James Davis II Obituary

James Underhill Davis, II, affectionately known as Jimmy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in Columbus, Georgia, at the age of 69. Born on October 19, 1954, in Phenix City, Alabama, Jimmy was a man of kindness and skill, whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around him.

Jimmy spent his early years in Phenix City, where he developed a strong sense of community and an unwavering work ethic. He was formerly employed at Dolly Madison Bakeries, where his leadership abilities shone brightly as he served as a union leader, advocating for the rights and well-being of his colleagues. Later in life, he worked at various local gas stations and convenience stores, where he continued to be a friendly and familiar face to his regular customers.

Despite his various health challenges that eventually led him to become unable to work, Jimmy never lost his zest for life. He was an ardent supporter of Alabama Football, a passion that brought him great joy and excitement every season. His love for the game was infectious, and he was always ready to engage in lively discussions about the latest matches and team strategies.

In addition to his love for football, Jimmy had a keen interest in technology and electronics. He was particularly skilled at working on computers, often helping friends and family with their technical troubles. His dexterity with electronics extended to his hobby as a HAM radio operator, a pastime through which he connected with people from around the world, sharing stories, and making long-lasting friendships.

Jimmy was a man of many talents and was always ready to lend a hand. Described as kind and handy, he was the person many turned to when something needed fixing or when they simply needed a listening ear. His ability to solve problems, combined with his compassionate nature, made him a cherished member of his community.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his nieces Ashley Davis Lothery and Rebecca Davis Jordan, his "special nephew" Kenneth Gray, numerous cousins, and ten great-nieces and nephews, aunts, Jean Corbitt and Louise Scroggins, and uncle, Roy Scroggins (Vicki) and his four legged companions, Destiny, Thunder and Lightning.  Each family member will carry forward the memory of Jimmy's generous spirit and his enduring kindness

A memorial service will be announced later.
