James T. "Jake" Chesnut, Jr., 92, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
Jake lived his entire life in Columbus, Georgia. He attended Jordan High School and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War on the warship, USS Roanoke. Jake played semi pro football for Choppy's Termites in Columbus. He was a shoe salesman at Kiralfy's, Davidson's, and Matthews on Wynnton from the 1960's-1990's. Jake was an avid golfer, playing at many of the local golf courses. Jake loved UGA football, the Atlanta Braves, and the Atlanta Falcons. Preceding him in death are his father, James T. Chesnut, Sr., mother, Hazel Chadwick Chesnut, sister, Joyce Thomas, wife, Anne Adams Chesnut, and son, Tommy Chesnut (James T. Chesnut, III).
He is survived by a son, Robert (Bobby) Chesnut (Gloria Register) of Columbus, Georgia; sister, Carol Kennon of Fortson, Georgia; nephew, Ben Kennon (Wendy) of Salem, Alabama; grandson, Ryan Chesnut (Calista) of Fayetteville, Georgia; 2 great grandchildren, Gavin and Olivia; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.
Visitation will be Monday, November 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM, following will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 613 14th Street, Phenix City, Alabama with Pastor Michael (Mike) McBride officiating.
