Jacqueline Sandra Hanie, known affectionately to friends and family as Jackie, passed away peacefully at her home in Phenix City, Alabama, on February 19, 2025. Born on December 21, 1939, in the same city she would love and inhabit her entire life, Jackie's 85 years were marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, a passion for the simple joys in life, and a gentle spirit that made her beloved by all who knew her.
Jackie spent her formative years in Phenix City, where she attended Central High School. After graduation, she devoted herself to the role of homemaker, a vocation she approached with grace and diligence. Jackie's life was a testament to her loving and thoughtful nature, a thread that ran through every aspect of her existence.
Married to her soulmate, Winfred "Dink" Hanie, for an extraordinary 66 years, Jackie's life was a partnership of deep love and mutual respect. Together, they built a family that would become Jackie's greatest pride. She was a nurturing mother to her sons, Michael Hanie and his wife, Eve, and Chris Hanie and his wife, Janie. Her family circle expanded with the joy of six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom benefitted from her wisdom and warmth. Jackie also shared a special bond with her son-in-law, Calvin Cain, and her brother, Stephen Haines. She was preceded in death by her parents and her cherished daughter, Misti Hanie Cain.
Jackie's interests were as varied as they were endearing. An avid reader, she could often be found engrossed in the pages of a novel, transported to different worlds through the power of storytelling. Beach trips were a source of serenity and delight for Jackie, where she found peace in the rhythm of the waves and the warmth of the sun. Her intellectual curiosity shone brightly when she engaged in her favorite crossword puzzles, a hobby that kept her mind sharp and often brought a smile to her face.
A frequenter of yard sales, Jackie had an eye for treasures and a knack for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Her love of flower gardening was evident in the vibrant colors and fragrant blooms that adorned her home, a reflection of the beauty she cultivated in her life and the lives of those around her.
As the sun sets on a life so beautifully lived, we bid farewell to Jacqueline Sandra Hanie, a woman who embodied the essence of love and thoughtfulness. Her memory will be cherished, her spirit will continue to inspire, and her presence will be deeply missed by her adoring family and the many friends who were blessed to know her.
